Minor premier Tigers completed a fine season by taking out the 2015 premiership in a close grand final over Croppos. The night began typically close with matches shared through the first round of singles. Croppos’ Harry Hood held off a determined Marc Hanning in five sets, while Wade Gray did likewise for Tigers in defeating Riki Popovic. Tigers made the first break in the contest in the first round of doubles where Max Williams and Marc Hanning came from two sets to one down to defeat Peter Forrest and Jay Sorensen in five sets. When Shane Stockham and Wade Gray accounted for Huey Rosalia and Geoff Nottle in straight sets, Tigers held a lead of two at the halfway mark. Croppos couldn’t afford to let the lead extend any further and duly responded in the second round of singles with Jay Sorensen overcoming Marc Hanning and Peter Forrest fighting back to defeat Max Williams in five sets. With the scores locked up late in the round, Tigers scored two crucial wins to restore their lead through Reece Fordham and Shane Stockham over Kody Rosalia and Huey Rosalia respectively. Four matches remained in the 2015 season and Croppos needed at least three of them to give themselves any chance. They made things hard for themselves with Tigers Martin Sheridan and Marc Hanning holding off a spirited comeback by Harry Hood and Jay Sorensen to win in five sets. Croppos kept fighting to win the next two, leaving their hopes resting on the final match of the night. In the end Shane Stockham and Reece Fordham were too strong for Huey and Kody Rosalia to hand Tigers the 2015 premiership, losing only one match for the entire season.
Best for Tigers were Shane Stockham and Martin Sheridan. Best for Croppos were Peter Forrest, Riki Popovic and Geoff Nottle.
