After a break for school holidays, Tigers moved to second place on the ladder with a win over top side Croppos. Croppos began the better of the two sides with five wins through the first round, including Max Williams over Ralph Sandford and Fiona Rosalia in five sets over Brenton Stagg. Tigers hit back and hard in the first round of doubles by claiming all four in the round to turn a deficit of two into a lead of two at the half way mark. Croppos failed to make any headway through the second round of singles with Tigers finding an answer at every turn to keep their lead of two with just the final round of doubles to play. Tigers won the crucial first double of the round with Ben Schillabeer and Wayde Heidenreich defeating David Hall and Lana Sheridan in five sets. Tigers finished off the round with confidence to record a strong win over tough competition.
Best for Tigers were Shane Stockham and Ben Schillabeer. Best for Croppos were Max Williams and Peter Lee.
Lions 12(45) defeated Panthers 12(41)
In the closest result of the season, Panthers narrowly missed out on their first win of the season, going down to Lions in a countback of sets. Lions took an early lead, winning the first three matches of the night through Jack Hale, Jay Sorensen and Dannen Blacker. Panthers finally hit the scoreboard with Ernie Bauer defeating Alex Hale in straight sets, but Lions still managed to hold a lead of two after the first round. In the first round of doubles neither side could gain any advantage, with Lions doing enough to hold their lead but Panthers stopping them from extending it any further. Panthers made their move in the second round of singles and at one stage winning four matches in a row. A late win by Lion’s Jason Regan over Russell Fordham left the scores completely level with just four matches to play. Lions won the first two matches of the round in straight sets, and despite Panthers winning the next two, they were pushed to five sets in both to leave them just short.
Best for Lions were Jay Sorensen and Jason Regan. Best for Panthers were Shane Harris and Ernie Bauer.
Dodgers 14(48) defeated Gladiators 10(49)
Dodgers had the better of the close matches to narrowly outlast Gladiators and return to the top of the ladder. Dodgers lead from the start with five wins in the first round of singles, including Peter Forrest and Wade Gray defeating Lance Barnett and Bill Broughton respectively and both in five sets. The first round of doubles was split evenly to leave Dodgers with a lead of two at the halfway mark. Dodgers extended their lead through the second round of singles, primarily thanks to three further five set wins to Ryan Richards, Jerome AhKit Burgoyne and Geoff Nottle. With a mixture of skill and luck, Dodgers had built a commanding lead and held that advantage through the final round of doubles to win by four. Incredibly Gladiators still managed to win more sets for the night.
Best for Dodgers were Jerome AhKit Burgoyne and Tom Tape. Best for Gladiators was Joe Perone.
ROUND 3
Croppos 17(57) defeated Dodgers 7(32)
Dodgers suffered their first defeat of the season when second placed Croppos dominated the doubles to run out easy victors. Matches were even through the first round as the two sides traded wins to record four apiece. Fiona Rosalia and Joseph Harris had strong wins for Croppos, while Jerome AhKit Burgoyne and Tom Tape were equally impressive for Dodgers. Croppos took control of the contest in the first round of doubles, sweeping all four available, including Mark Jesser and Vic Ellul over Geoff Nottle and Ellen Challinger in four sets. Dodgers needed a response to give themselves any chance of a comeback, but Croppos again played strong and extended their lead, with Mark Jesser coming from two sets down to defeat Dodgers Geoff Nottle. With the points wrapped up, Croppos pushed ahead to claim all four of the final round of doubles to complete a percentage building win.
Best for Croppos were Joseph Harris and Isaac Grima. Best for Dodgers were Wade Gray and Jerome AhKit Burgoyne.

In another big win for the round, Tigers lifted themselves into the top four to overcome Lions. Tigers jumped to the lead early with five wins through the first round. Barry Hancock provided some resistance for Lions with a five set victory over Brenton Stagg. Tigers extended their lead in the first round of doubles to take control of the match with Ralph Sandford and Ben Schillabeer playing the close moments better to outpoint David Sherry and Jay Sorensen in four sets. Any chance of a Lions comeback was soon extinguished with Tigers dominating the round to the tune of six wins to their name. With only the doubles to play and respect to play for, Lions pairing Barry Hancock and Josh Phillips lifted themselves over Paul Kroes and Brenton Stagg in five sets. That’s where the joy ended though with Tigers finishing off the night with three further wins and a good night for the team.
Best for Tigers were Dale Schillabeer, Ralph Sandford and Shane Stockham. Best for Lions were Josh Phillips and Barry Hancock.
Gladiators 16(52) defeated Panthers 8(36)
In the third one sided result of the round, Gladiators steadily wore down their opponents to leave Panthers winless after three rounds. Scores were level in the first round with close matches on either side of the table. Gladiators began to show their strength in the first round of doubles, where all three matches went the distance to five sets, Gladiators claimed three of them. With the momentum now theirs, Gladiators stormed through the second round of singles with six of the eight falling their way, including Lance Barnett and Reece Fordham over Cheryl King and Kody Rosalia respectively. With the night beyond doubt, Gladiators finished the night off well to extend their lead to the finish line.
Best for Gladiators were Lester Barnes and Joe Perone. Best for Panthers were Cheryl King and Peter Forrest.

Gladiators 13(50) defeated Lions 11(40)
Gladiators recorded their first win of the season with a solid win over Lions to move into the top four. Gladiators started the stronger of the two sides with five wins in the first round of singles through Campbell Waller, Lance Barnett, Joe Perone, Bill Broughton and Lester Barnes. Jack Hale, Dannen Blacker and Jason Regan responded for Lions, but Gladiators still held a lead of two. That lead was doubled in the first round of doubles as Lions dominated the round to claim three of the four on offer. Trailing by four at the halfway mark, Lions needed to lift and they did just that with five in the second round of singles including David Sherry and Jason Regan over Bill Broughton and Lester Barnes respectively, both in five sets. Still trailing with only the final round to play, Lions couldn’t quite bridge the gap with Gladiators doing enough in the final round to claim the points.
Best for Gladiators were Joe Perone and Lance Barnett. Best for Lions were Jason Regan and Jack Hale.

In a dominating performance, Croppos extended their lead through every round to give themselves an early season percentage boost. It was a fast start by Croppos with five wins in the first round. It was the first round of doubles though were Croppos really put their foot down to win all four on offer, including Peter Lee and Isaac Grima over Cheryl King and Marc Hanning in five sets. Declan Hall gave Panthers some hope with a straight sets win over Lana Sheridan, but that hope was soon extinguished as Croppos reeled off the next seven singles in a row to have the night wrapped up with still the final round of doubles to play. Looking for icing on the cake, Croppos added a further three more to their total to finish an all-round complete performance.

Dodgers 18(58) defeated Tigers 6(30)
In an early matchup between the top two sides, Dodgers overcame unavailable players to hand out the second comprehensive win of the round. Scores were even through the first round as both sides battled for ascendancy. Dodgers gained the upper hand in the first round of doubles as three of the four fell their way, including Kay Ajao and Ryan Richards over Ethan Harrison and Dale Schillabeer in five sets. The flood gates opened in the second round of singles as Dodgers strung together seven in a row to gain an unassailable lead. Shane Stockham was the shining light for Tigers as he defeated Daniel Challinger in straight sets. With all the momentum, Dodgers swept through the final round of doubles to take all four and finish clear winners.

After only recording three wins for the entire 2015 season, Dodgers started the new season in the best possible fashion with a comfortable win against Panthers. Dodgers set up their lead early with a strong opening round, recording six to Panthers just two. Ellen Challinger, Wade Gray, Jerome AhKit Burgoyne and Corey Stephens all had strong wins for Dodgers, while Marc Hanning and Cheryl King scored for Panthers. The first round of doubles was a tight affair with matches split evenly. Panthers Cheryl King and Marc Hanning held their nerve to come from two sets down to defeat Jerome AhKit Burgoyne and Tom Tape in five sets. Panthers needed to start reducing the Dodgers lead, and held hope when Marc Hanning and Peter Forrest defeated Tom Tape and David Hall respectively but could not keep the momentum as Dodgers fought back to retain their lead of four with just the final round of doubles to play. Needing a perfect round in the last, Panthers were close but not close enough with Dodgers doing just enough to hold off a late challenge.
Best for Dodgers were Wade Gray and Ellen Challinger. Best for Panthers was Marc Hanning.
Tigers 13(51) defeated Gladiators 11(43)
In a close fought battle, Tigers did enough in the close matches to defeat a formidable Gladiators outfit. Nothing separated the two sides through the first round as the lead changed hands several times. Tigers’ Ralph Sandford was impressive in defeating Bob Gibbes in five sets, while Gladiators Lester Barnes outlasted Sally Kunze, also in five sets. Tigers made the first break of the game in the first round of doubles. Tigers won three of the four on offer to hold a lead of two at the half way mark. Gladiators made their move in the second round of singles to draw level, but two late wins to Shane Stockham and Sally Kunze over Lester Barnes and Reece Fordham respectively restored their lead back to two. That’s where the lead remained as Gladiators couldn’t bridge the gap to hand Tigers the points.
Best for Tigers were Shane Stockham and Dale Schillabeer. Best for Gladiators were Bill Broughton and Joe Perone.

In a contest that went right to the wire, Lions finished the stronger to overrun Croppos. Scores were locked together after the first round with Lions Dannen Blacker and Barry Hancock both winning in five sets to ensure their team remained in touch. Neither side could gain any ascendancy in the first round of doubles but it was the second round of singles where the action happened. Three of the eight matches went to five sets with Croppos this time on the right side of the results with Joseph Harris and Mark Jesser the beneficiaries. With scores level and just the final round of doubles to play, Croppos struck first to briefly take the lead before Lions stormed home with the final three matches of the night to win by two.
